These movies will not keep you on your seat full of doubt and suspense from the first to the very last minute as they will also leave you with an unsettling or satisfying gut feeling.
1. Shutter Island (2010)
The implausible getaway of a clever killer brings U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new partner, Chuck to Ashecliffe Hospital, a fortress-like insane asylum located on a remote, windswept island. The woman appears to have vanished from a locked room, and there are hints of terrible deeds committed within the hospital walls. As the investigation deepens, Teddy realizes he will have to confront his own dark fears if he hopes to make it off the island alive.
2. Get Out (2017)
The spine-chilling thriller displays how, now that Chris and his girlfriend, Rose, have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of their relationship, she invites him for a weekend getaway with Missy and Dean, who are her parents. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behaviour as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries unravels the truth that he never could have dreamed.
3. Memento (2000)
Leonard is tracking down the man who was responsible for raping and murdering his dead wife. The difficulty, however, of locating his wife’s killer is compounded by the fact that he suffers from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. Although he can recall details of life before his accident, Leonard cannot remember what happened only minutes ago, where he was going, or why, which results in him tattooing important information all over his body.
4. Se7en (1995)
When retiring police Detective William Somerset is assigned to his final case with the assistance of newly transferred David Mills, they discover a number of elaborate and aggressive murders. They soon realize they are dealing with a serial killer who is targeting people he thinks to represent one of the seven deadly sins. Somerset also befriends Mills’ wife, Tracy, who is pregnant and afraid to raise her child in the crime-riddled atmosphere.
5. Pulp Fiction (1994)
Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield are hitmen with a penchant for intelligent discussions. In this ultra-hip, multi-strand crime movie, their storyline is intertwined with those of their boss, gangster Marsellus Wallace and his actress wife, Mia (Uma Thurman), struggling boxer Butch Coolidge, master fixer Winston Wolfe and a nervous pair of armed robbers, “Pumpkin”, and “Honey Bunny”.
6. Inside Man (2006)
An intense detective, Keith, matches wits with an intelligent bank robber, as a tense hostage crisis is unfolding. Into the volatile situation comes a woman named Madaline, a mysterious power broker who has a hidden agenda and threatens to push a tense situation past the breaking point.
7. Nobody (2021)
Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked father and husband, takes life’s indignities on the chin and never turns back. A total nobody.
